Nissan Leaf is truly a technological leap in that it is a mass produced electric car with the range for up to 100 miles in only a single charge. Unfortunately for Nissan, they release the electric vehicle to the market at the same time with the price hungry Chevrolet Volt from General Motors, which has already taken home the North American and Motor Trend Car Of The Year awards.

However while the Volt has taken the award in the land of the United States, in Europe, the Leaf can now sport the prestigious award as the 2011 European Car Of The Year. As much as 58 voters gave the Leaf the nod over more conventional offerings like the Volvo S60 and Opel Meriva. CEO of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn is quick to point out the fact that their Leaf car is the first electric vehicle that win the European Car of The Year award.

The CEO is also stated that the Leaf is an appealing and competitive car, with no compromise on its features, style, safety, performance, and the fun to ride aspects. The trophy for Europe’s Car of The Year was handed over to the CEO in a special ceremony in the Pavillion Gabriel in Paris.
